So feeding...always wondering about this... What brand of food do you use for your thriantas? What % protein? Do you give them anything extra? How much and what is it? All the time or certain circumstances? (Oats, hay, sunflower seeds, veggies, supplements???) I feed Purina Show Formula with 16% protein. They all get timothy hay every once and a while. It doesn't last to long...I need to find it in a huge bale or something. So I have to make that last. They get banana slices like less than once a month. It's only when we have some extra browing ones that know one wants to eat. lol I used to use Manna Pro brand and I also got their show supplement and I still have some left over. I haven't used it in a while though. I got a baggie of rolled oats, black sunflower seeds and calf manna from a 4-H show. How often should I feed them that? When it runs out should I make my own too? Also, I know people who mix different feeds and/or add oats and stuff for them...is that better? Should they get a bit of oats or something often? All this nutrition stuff is confusing... I need other peoples opinions. XD

I feed mine on a my own customized mixture of Dodson and Horrell rabbit pellets and Wren's rolled oats. Roughly speaking, it's about 4/5 volume respectively. However, I vary the proportion of each and amount fed for every season and also for individual rabbits (some prefer oats to pellets and vice versa.) This is supplemented with good quality meadow hay, fresh roots, herbs, veggies, twigs and branches of trees, and frequent runs on the grass. I don't feed treats, fruit or supplements. Generally speaking I find the Thriantas can put on weight easily, so I have to watch their weight closely. They also seem to get upset tums if fed too much greenstuff, whereas the Dutch could eat nothing but with no ill effects! Maybe I need to keep my own line of Thriantas ticking over for a couple more years, so that they get used to it hth! D. x

My thrianta does have the sensative tummies. My buck has been ok so far. I never really had problems with my woolies either. lol All my rabbits seem to like the oats. Some would rather not eat sunflower seeds though. They all love strawberries, bananas and apples (which they get on rare occassions ). I am thinking that I will start mixing a bit of oats into my pellets now... I think it will be good for my little buns...

What about timothy Hay? I've had my 6 week-old Dutch and 3-month-old Thrianta for 3 days and they eat lots and lots of Timothy hay. They have pellets, too, but eat lots more timothy hay. how much is too much. I put a swath of Timothy hay in to a toilet paper roll. The Thrianta goes through two of those a day and the Dutch one. Too much? Is there too much?

I feed mine MannaPro Sho, 16% feed. They get oats and a few sunflower seeds, occasionally a little Calf Manna as needed, and hay in the morning. Pellets are night. ACV in the water. It works well.

Not really, especially now that it's winter, the hay is a lot of fiber, and the pellets are good food, but I more of an issue keeping conditions (BOSFS and oats do wonders) as long as they aren't getting fat, it should be good, just you don't want to replace the pellets completely because of the trace minerals unless you also give mineral licks.

Thanks, For now the pellets and timothy hay are OK. They are still growing (7weeks and 3 months) so I'll let them eat as much as they want. Should I have some wood in the cage so they can have something to chew on?

yes, a empty pop can is good too you don't have to buy the wood at the pet store (somebody is getting RICH, three painted sticks for $5)
Go to lowes or homedepot, they usually have a trimming/cutting saw in the back, now for the yelling
STAY AWAY FROM CEDER, MAHOGANY, AND EXOTICS. and glued product like OSB and ply, try to stick with pine and oak, some woods are poisonous, some like cedar are especially poisonous to rabbits.
