So what makes the thrianta a rare breed? If I do a Google search for rabbits for sale sure there are masses of Netherland dwarf, Dutch and all manner of lops. Years back there were few continental giants but their numbers have increased too.....but thriantas are creeping in the adds too.

Well "rare breed" just means that there aren't many around because there aren't enough breeders breeding them...numbers are low. But actually in the USA, Thriantas aren't really rare. lol The American Thrianta Breeders Association has over 200 members I think...plus the other people who aren't registered. Dutch and netherlands are pretty popular over here as well. Mini rex, netherland dwarfs and holland lops are the most popular over here. There are TONS of breeders. Thriantas are getting up there. More people are finding them appealing to raise.

In the UK they're classed as a rare breed because there aren't enough breeders to make a club just for them. I have no idea why they're rare though, gorgeous colour, great temperaments, perfect size for handling.
